the way to my man's heart is chocolate

that is so cliche sounding. haha! but he really does like chocolate! and last night this recipe served as a date-night-in conversation starter, and THAT---conversation, openness, confession---is the way to his heart, truly. i love it.

we have had a busy, busy few weeks. his work schedule, my family being in town, me attending events that were during times he was off work--these are all factors to why we haven't had any face time, or time to ourselves. and it's important to do this on a regular basis. we hear a lot, for husbands to date their wives, and while that is so unswervingly true...sometimes, ladies, we are to date our husbands, and do something special that's about them.

i love date nights in because you get the whole place to yourself. don't get me wrong, i love going out, to the movies, to have a drink or coffee...but it is so special to be able to do something in your own home that you've created with your own hands just for your man.

last night was no exception to this, so i decided to attempt a bittersweet chocolate tort with raspberry topping. that thing was incredible!

here is the recipe, from smitten kitchen.

bittersweet chocolate tort

8 oz. bittersweet (i used semi sweet, because it's all i had)
1 cup unsalted butter (aka 2 sticks)
1 cup sugar
5 large eggs
1 tbsp vanilla
1/3 tsp salt
1/4 cup all purpose flour

preheat oven to 352, and butter your baking dish (i used a springform pan)

melt chocolate and butter n heavy large saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.

cool to lukewarm (my chocolate didn't get super hot so i skipped this!)

whisk in sugar and then eggs, 1 at a time. then ad, vanilla and salt, then flour.

pour batter in pan and bake about 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes clean from the center.

take out, cool a bit, then remove the side of the springform pan and dust with a little powdered sugar.

raspberry topping of amazingness
2 cups sour cream
2 cups (or 1 pint) of raspberries (or really any favorite berry but there's nothing like rasp with chocolate!)
1 cup dark brown sugar (i did 1/2 light, 1/2 dark...because again... it's what i had)

mix together and stick in the oven on broil for about 4-6 minutes.

throw that junk on top of your tart and eat immediatley, if not sooner.

here's another pic of this delicious tort with raspberry amazingness, with our candle-lit dinner.

see? dates at home can be super fun and way less expensive. and i'll tell you a secret, but don't tell anyone. for our main course...wait for it.....we had pasta. and not just any pasta...mac and cheese. HA!! i got so into the chocolate tart i forgot to start something for dinner! but he loved it none the less...and i knew he would. he's pretty simple. i love that dude!

thanks for reading!
